Our art curriculum aims to help all students gain the necessary academic skills and intellectual habits that will help them develop a wide range of skills and techniques, through the study of great artists and the wide spectrum of art in our present society, which can help them develop and express their own creativity as they prepare to enter the adult world.
Through our art curriculum, students will become confident in forming opinions and gain an understanding of art throughout history and in today’s society. Students will develop their understanding in the use of visual art and the different styles alongside an appreciation of how art is relevant and enriching.
The art curriculum at King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree is research informed. We have organised the various art topics and associated concepts in appropriately sequenced steps. This is so that students can build their knowledge systematically over time towards ambitious curriculum end points.
We aim to ensure that all our students who are disadvantaged or have any special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) have access to a carefully planned curriculum. Our curriculum aims to provide students with SEND with explicit systematic teaching and rehearsal of knowledge. We also ensure that these students have the time they need to study important subject content in art.
The King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree art curriculum has been developed to ensure that all students:
produce creative work, exploring their ideas and recording their experiences
become proficient in drawing, painting, and other art techniques
evaluate and analyse creative works using the language of art and design
know about great artists and designers, and understand the historical and cultural development of their art forms
