Y6 Transition Page

Start here...

We are delighted to welcome our next Year 7 cohort to King’s Leadership Academy Wavertree. As an established and growing academy, our systems, routines and expectations are firmly embedded, creating a calm, purposeful and highly structured environment where pupils thrive. We are uncompromising in our standards and ambitious for every child, ensuring that from day one pupils understand what excellence looks like - both academically and in character. We are excited to support this next cohort as they begin their journey with us and become part of a community built on high expectations, strong relationships and a belief that every child can succeed. New pupils and parents will find this webpage useful to help with the transition to secondary school over the coming months.

Tour of the School

We know that seeing a school in action is an important step for parents.

For this reason, we are offering the opportunity to visit the school for a short guided tour during the school day. During the tour you will be able to see lessons taking place, experience the atmosphere of the school, and explore our facilities.

A member of the Senior Leadership Team will also be available to answer any questions you may have about the curriculum, school culture, and the opportunities available to students.

You can book a tour at a convenient time by clicking this link. We hope this visit will help give you a clear sense of what life at King's is like and support you on the journey to September.

Key Dates

There are 4 key dates that prospective parents should have in their diaries:

  • Information & Uniform Evening, An opportunity for parents to learn about the year ahead, meet staff, and have their child fitted for uniform - Wednesday 15th April
  • Baseline Tests - A morning or afternoon session for pupils to complete their baseline reading and cognitive ability assessments - Saturday 16th May or Saturday 6th June
  • Y6 Transition Day - A city-wide transition day where Year 6 pupils spend the day experiencing life at their new secondary school - Wednesday 1st July
  • 1-2-1 Interviews - A final individual meeting for each parent and child before officially starting as a King’s pupil - Wednesday 15th July

King’s Academy

As part of our transition programme, we will be offering a series of King’s Academy sessions during Easter, May half-term as well as summer breaks. These structured days are designed to help pupils build confidence, meet key staff, make new friendships and become familiar with our routines and expectations before September. Many secondary schools across Liverpool offer similar programmes because early familiarity significantly reduces anxiety and supports a smooth start to Year 7. Further details will be shared directly with families in the coming weeks through this webpage. Some sessions will require advance booking or an expression of interest due to limited places.
